The inclusion of life settlements in the discussion of cat bonds, ILWs and insurance derivatives is unusual but true to the title of this book by Alex Krutov. They are all insurance-linked securities. The risks are of the kind that can assumed by an insurance or reinsurance company in a contract of insurance.

How could a large, not for profit hospital system such as Valley Baptist Medical Center buy such obviously boggus insurance. I can't help but wonder if someone on the "inside" got a kickback? Seems incredibly suspicious.

I agree with the concept of e-health but am dismayed (and angry) that there is so little control exercised over the ridiculous amount of our (taxpayers) money that has been squandered with little regard for value received.

I see most of the comments & the article itself is based on "home" insurance. Okay, okay, for now it's legal & I guess insurance companies can use it as long as they can get away with it. Why, might I ask are they using credit scores on auto? Don't bother denying it, insurance industry - I know first hand-- & all about the "kick off" lists given to brokers who are forced to remarket those with a bad credit score unless they want their contracts cancelled. Where is FSCO?(Financial Services Commission of Ontario) who are the governing body responsible for monitoring the practices of insurance companies, banks & other financial institutions. Why do they continue to turn a blind eye - you do know that it is illegal tu use credit scores on auto insurance do you not....? Why are you not protecting unsuspecting members of the public?
